And Then There Was The Time ...

And Then There Was The Time

Ma and Pa Kent got turned into teenagers and Clark had to sit on them to keep them from doing crazy, irresponsible things like moving to Metropolis.

Superboy 126 was apparently published in 1966. Martha and Jonathan drink some kind of fluid plot-device that turns them physically into adolescents (signified by their use of pre-Depression slang), and apparently also regresses them mentally, because it's heavily implied by the cover that Superboy, an adolescent himself (and absolutely no fun at parties), has to take responsibility and prevent them from doing totally crazy things like deciding they no longer want to live in Smallville. Who would want to move to Metropolis, anyway? It's only the City of the Future. Better to stick around and do vague, nondefined things on your farm.

Much thanks to the Internet, and specifically (postmodern barney).

What The What?

I'm just going to reprint the whole of this:

A well-heeled Philadelphia school district gave out laptops to students—then used the webcams attached to covertly spy on them, both at school and at home, according to a class-action lawsuit. The case, Blake J. Robbins v. Lower Merion School District, was filed after one of the school’s vice principals disciplined Robbins’ son for “improper behavior in his home,” using a photo taken from the camera as evidence, according to the filing.

The laptops were issued to 1,800 students at three high schools in the district, each with a built-in webcam that, according to the lawsuit, administrators can activate remotely and covertly. The suit is a class action, brought on behalf of all the students and their parents. They’re seeking damages for invasion of privacy, theft of private information, and unlawful interception and access of electronic information.

I don't want it crawling into bed with me when I'm asleep. Next it'll be getting into the liquor cabinet and helping itself to the silver.

Next, They'll Label Ahmedinijad (D-Nigeria)

Stupidity, or malice?

When they label the latest Republican with his hand in someone else's bloomers a (D), it's malice.

When they label Iraq "Egypt," however, I'm more inclined to accept abject stupidity as an explanation.

Which is worse? Discuss.

Totally stolen from Sadly, No! which in turn totally stole it from Media Matters.

Brian Kilmeade: Lying Nazi Whore LANGUAGE WARNING

Kilmeade: Leave it to the Finns and Swedes to come up with something. Because that's a -- we are, we're a, we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other --

[Crosstalk]

Kilmeade: I mean the Swedes -- the Swedes have, uh, pure genes. Because they marry other Swedes. Because that's the rule. Finland -- Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society. In America, we marry everybody. So we marry Italians and Irish and --

Dave Briggs: OK, so this study does not apply.

Kilmeade: It does not apply to us.

Emphases mine.

This emphasis also mine:

WHAT. THE. FUCKITTY. FUCK. FUCK. FUCK. ??!.

So Sweden does a study of the benefits of marriage, and Brian Kilmeade goes on Fox & Friends yesterday morning and claims that Scandinavians have kept their genes pure by marrying each other, and not any of the other icky Europeans to be found slightly south and east of them.

But we, this great melting pot that calls itself the United States, we marry Italians and Irish and "--" (whoever they are) so this Swedish study of the benefits of marriage don't apply to us. Not to mention marrying people from Africa or Asia or the New World. Or even (heavens!) Jews.

Brian Kilmeade spent a lot of time getting that stupid little stache to sprout just under his nose, but he had to shave it off to go on Fox & Friends. I bet his idol Dolf was just devastated....

A Couple Things From PZ Myers

First, on Michael Medved's column about how we dasn't elect no G-dless folk to the Pres'nency:

In the interests of being totally fair, I'd like all my American readers to know that it is right to resist the election of a wandering Geatish epic hero to the presidency, too: they tend to be violent, any time they're not at war they're morosely guzzling mead, they don't speak the language of Congress, there is actually a constitutional restriction against foreign-born nationals, and, well, they're all dead. See? It's a little harsh to tell someone famous in the sagas of skalds that they don't get to be president, but at least I can give a list of decent reasons.

He makes me laugh, quite often, actually.

And this he also had on his site, which (I must admit) didn't leave me scratching my head very much:

It was nominated for best short animated film in 2003.

The Recursive Troll

PZ Myers has a very long and quite insane comment in one of his posts.

A small snippet:

Yes, this is god's positioning, but as I say you need to understand the reality, that the gods run the show, but also understand their positioning, for it can help you remain safe:::
1. The Boot
2. The Scandanavian [redacted for vulgarity] on Europe
3. Redwhite&blue IS BAD FOR YOU!!!

He also goes on at length about some "Preditory [sic] Italian Company" and Ned Flanders.

Isabel thinks this is a guy arguing with himself, nay, trolling himself. The repeated mention of "You suck.wav" certainly seems insulting enough.

For the record, PZ's commenters think this was a bot. It seems to have shown up on literally thousands of blogs since the fall of '07 and is growing each day.

Is it a bot written by a schizophrenic programmer? Or a schizophrenic bot written by a sane and very clever programmer? Does it scan the Intertoobz for examples of trolling, looking to create a post so massive that it collapses into a singularity of hate and pot-stirring? Can we perhaps harness the potentialities of troll-point energy to flick starships between star systems? Is this the breakthrough that will finally relegate the Bad News Drive to the dust heaps of history? Only time will tell!

What the Hell?

So David tells me to contact the Cheyenne Ambulatory Care Center in Oak Ridge to get some records for one of our clients.

I say Okay, and head on over to Yellowpages.com which doesn't have it.

I scour the Yellow Pages in the phone book, hoping to Magnum, P.I.* up a number. Nope.

I call 411. I have to say "One" twice to get a government or business listing; apparently the robot wasn't listening to me the first time. The droid also fails to bring up a number for it, and dumps me into the wait queue for a live person.

She's very sorry, but there's no listing. Can she help me with another listing today?

So I ask for Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge. That at least is recognized by AT&T.

But I know Cheyenne Ambulatory is there. It's on the Turnpike. I pass it twice each workday. Isabel had her nose job done there. What, didn't they pay their phone bill?

Oy.

Update the First: All right, it wasn't rhinoplasty, it was surgery to correct a deviated septum. It just amuses me to call it a nose job; however, since it doesn't amuse Isabel I guess that behavior is going to extinguish.

Update the Second: The Cheyenne Ambulatory Care Center is a satellite of Methodist Medical Center. At least I ain't crazy.

What the Hell?

Via Pandagon, I hear of this book, Skinny Bitch, which seems to be simply an incarnation of every anorexic's inner voice:

You need to exercise, you lazy shit.

Coffee is for pussies.

Don't be a fat pig anymore.

What the hell? Who thought a book written like this was a good idea?

This book is abuse in a hardback cover. They probably think they can get away with it by saying, "Can't you take a joke?" just like every other abuser out there: "Jeez, you're sensitive. Don't hold me accountable! It just makes you look bad."

This book is not representative of veganism or vegetarianism. It hardly has cause to call itself a book.

Go read the Salon article, and the Pandagon post.

They'll print anything these days ::shakes head::
